IT’S SO REAL

10-26-15

Hello again everyone!

well it’s been a week that’s for sure. a longggg week, but a good week!

First things first, Elder Holland came!! So Wednesday morning we all wake up super early, so that we could be in our seats by 6:40am. Of course we do it though. Anything for Elder Holland. So the first thing that he did when he walked in the room was that he wanted to shake everyone’s hand. He wanted us to say what our name was and where we were from. he literally stares directly into your eyes… talk about intimidating!! so after he shook all of our hands, he explained to us why he did that. he said, “i don’t really care, what your name is and where your from… well actually i do, but i wanted to see if you were a worthy and obedient missionary”. he has sent missionaries home before from doing that. he said it is his way of giving us a personal interview. anyways, he said that we were all great missionaries and worthy to be serving missions. he can tell by the way he looks in our eyes. that is so amazing to me. but anyways, since this is our keystone transfer and since we are really focusing on the Book of Mormon he talked all about the Book of Mormon. We went through the first 8 chapters of the Book of Mormon and talked about the patterns. He would just randomly call on people. so scary. i mean it’s elder holland! but we mainly focused on the message the the “heavens are opened”. that Heavenly Father talks to each of his children and to the Prophet and the 12 apostles. that is our message that we share as missionaries. that God still loves his children. that he speaks to each of us personally, but also through the words of the prophet and 12 apostles. anyways. he is so cool. i know we aren’t supposed to have favorites but he is my favorite.

so my investigator Sarah texted me the other day, and just said “abigail, call me!”. when we meet people on chat or the phone we usually go by our first name. so i am abigail to them. not sister clark. not abby. just abigail. so i called and she just said, “it is SO real. the church is so true. families can be together forever. the book of mormon is true”. i was just like what… well yes!! of course it is. it is all SO real. of course! but anyways. it was just crazy! the week before she was having doubts about things, and then less than a week later she sounded so much better! something just changed. Heavenly Father spoke to her and told her the truthfulness of the gospel! sooo the Elder’s in Florida put her on date for November 8th! so i get to skype in and actually meet her! she seriously seems way fun. she is only 26 and is a nurse and is just so funny! but it gets better! she is actually coming out to Salt Lake in January to visit one of her guy friends out here that is a member! so i get to meet her for real in person and take her on a tour and then we get to go out to dinner with her! so exciting. but i am just so happy for her. seriously the happiness in her voice was something i can’t even explain. then it reminded me of this quote from Elder Scott. he said, “there are few things in life that bring as much joy as the joy that comes from assisting another improve his or her life”. that is just so true. i didn’t know that this could truly make me so happy. but i am happy because she found happiness in the gospel! it is the only source of true joy not only for now, but for eternity!

anyways the Square is for real dead right now. it sucks. but our investigators are progressing now which is something sister li and i have really been focusing on. we have 4 baptisms on date for these next couple of weeks! 5 of our investigators went to church. it is just good. they are keeping commitments. reading their scriptures. coming closer to Christ. and we know that is the way to know if they are truly repenting. each time they keep a commitment, they are repenting. so they are all doing so well. makes me so happy.

something that i have really learned to love on my mission so far is the atonement of Christ. that by him and through him and because of him, we can ALL change. we can never go far enough away, where he will not accept us back. the atonement is infinite. all we need to do is being willing to change. to humble ourselves and let the atonement change each one of us. as we do this, we are becoming more like the Savior.

we had a cool experience on the square. we called to take a tour that had been texted out. it was 5 people. so we go get them from the Visitor Center. so 3 of them were members. i’ll be honest. i don’t really like taking members on tours. they usually don’t care about anything haha. but these members brought a non member couple for the tour. the elders were there too for the tour. so we took them all around. then the member asked me if we could have a little bit of time and share our testimonies. i was like sure. even though we were going to be late for our next assignment. so the elders start it, then sister li, then i bore my testimony. we were just standing out on the square in front of the temple and the spirit was so strong. of course i bear my testimony everyday, but not in the way i did it then. it was just amazing to see how the spirit truly speaks because i promise you, none of that came from me.it sounded way too smart… one of the non members started crying and i started crying a little bit… hahah but it was special. a special moment to be on such holy ground where thousands of members gave up SO much so that we can have the gospel today. i am so blessed to serve in a place where the spirit is always here. people always say there is something different here. that they feel at peace. and i know exactly why!

my favorite thing to do is just go inside the gates of the temple and walk around. when no one is on the square, sister li and i just go walk around the temple. it just feels like home being there. it is so special to me now because i know all the history and the work and the sacrifice that went into the temple. i love temple square.

sooo now onto funny moments of the week… well there weren’t that many…
1) my homeless friend John that sits up at the Christus all day every day gave me flowers this week… so sweet. he told me that someone threw them on him this morning… i laughed a little inside when he said that.
2) every time i do something dumb, i just tell my companion that was an abby moment… not a sister clark moment. so now pretty much every time i do something, she just goes, “abby moment?” and i just say yes… i guess i do dumb things a lot.
3) we had our first ever Temple Square Mission 5k. this isn’t really funny, but it was just fun. we ran all through the canyons and around the capital building and we didn’t have to be to the square till 12 that day, so that was nice of course. it was fun though. President Poulsen led us all in stretching. oh my gosh. so funny. then we ran and ran and ran and then they had Einsteins bagels waiting for us. so that was a bonus. and we got t-shirts so of course i was happy. it was fun though. 200 sisters running around salt lake and all of our senior couples. i love the temple square mission. i know that this is exactly where i was supposed to serve.

the scripture that i am ponderizing this week is Moroni 10:32.
“yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God”.

we just simply need to come unto Christ. little by little, we can do that. we can become perfected through Christ and his atonement. it is such an amazing gift that we all get to take part in!

i love you all SO SO SO much! the church is so true. the heavens are opened. Joseph Smith was a Prophet called of God to restore Christ’s church on the Earth for these last days. The Book of Mormon is SO true and it is my favorite. i love my Savior.  i love my Heavenly Father and i know that he knows each one of us perfectly. that he knows us each individually. i love being a missionary. this is the Lord’s work and i am so happy that i get to be a part of it. i know that the joy i feel when others choose to come closer to Christ is only a tiny fraction of the joy that Heavenly Father feels for each one of his children. only a tiny fraction of the love that he has for each of us.

i love you all so very much. thank you for all of the prayers,e-mails, letters, love and support! you make my days!

choose the right!
