hello again everyone. this week seriously flew by! i feel like it was just p-day yesterday, not even kidding. but it was such a good week with lots of really amazing tender mercies happening here on temple square! one thing i have realized this week is that there really is no such thing as coincidences. everything really is led by heavenly father who loves and knows each one of us perfectly.
though it has been such a great week here on temple square, it was also definitely a bitter sweet week here with President and Sister Poulsen leaving. Lots of tears were shed last night as we said our good byes to 2 amazing people who have changed hundreds of missionaries lives as well as hundreds of other people around the world. when i said bye to them last night, i said, “it’s like i’m saying bye to my parents all over again”…obviously it wasn’t that bad, but they have been my parents for the past 7 months. buttttt change is good, so this morning we welcomed President and Sister Risenmay! wow they are sooo amazing. we had a meeting with them this morning and the spirit was so strong. it really is amazing how we can feel their love and how we already love these people who we have never met! i am excited to see what the remaining 10 months of my mission will bring with them here on Temple Square.
so now onto the week with the miracles and tender mercies:
the other day, i got a referral online of someone wanting a Book of Mormon. When someone submits a referral on mormon.org, we have to call them and verify all the details. So I got a referral for a guy named Charles. I called him and started talking with him. I asked what made him interested in reading the bom and he said that he was at a party with his family and he started talking to one of his aunts. he said something about her was different. wellll she was a member of the church. so he came home and he ordered a Book of Mormon!! So I pretty much taught him the whole restoration, as well as a couple of other things. I think asked if he wanted to meet with missionaries. He said yes, of course I would. I asked him if he would be baptized if he knew it was true and he said to me, “i already know it is true”. so cool. so he met with the missionaries yesterday and he said it was amazing! he is going to church sunday and is meeting with them again next week! the church is true.
sooo then i get a referral for a free bible. i look to see where it is from… south carolina! but the area code was 864 so i was assuming it wasn’t in columbia. i call him and start talking with him. i introduce the Book of Mormon and missionaries. He said he would like to meet with missionaries. so i get his address, and he lives in Columbia!! so i looked up which church he would go to, and he was assigned to the windsor lake ward… i said well the missionaries there are really amazing! (that one was for you elder evans). we will see what happens! but really, no such thing as coincidences.
then i finally got to teach ezekiel again! he has been out of town visiting his family for like a month. well i was teaching him and i just knew something was wrong. he just feels like everything is wrong in his life. he doesn’t understand why bad things happen to good people and that kind of stuff. i asked him why he feels like this? and he told me about how he feels like when he goes through hard things and he asked God why, he feels like God isn’t there for him. i have been studying so much for him and trying to see what will help him the best. i was reading in psalms and came across this verse, “yea, though i walk through the valley of the shadow of death, i will fear no evil:for thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff they comfort me”. of course we are going to have trials. but because of the savior Jesus Christ, we can change. We can become better. Heavenly Father gives us trials because we have to grow. we are here to progress and unfortunately that is the only way we can! sooo i am just trying to get him to see that.
i remember how missionaries would always talk about how they could have this love for people they don’t know well. i was thinking about that and how amazing that love really is. i understand how you can love someone when you are in their home with them and getting to know them personally, but on temple square, we are able to love people over the phone…that love that we feel is because of Heavenly Father. He loves each one of us perfectly. no matter what. that is why as missionaries we can feel that love that he has. we just need to help others to recognize that love.
this morning, president risenmay shared some interesting things with us. when he was extended the call to be a mission president, he didn’t know where he was going to serve. President Eyring was the one who called him in. President Eyring said to President Risenmay, “these are some of the greatest missionaries we can send out. you are getting the best of the best”. sister risenmay talked about how temple square is a beacon to the world. some people come to temple square to take pictures, or to look at the flowers, or to see the architecture of the buildings, but every single one of these people is led by Heavenly Father here to temple square to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. seeeee there is no such things as coincidences. everything comes from a loving Heavenly Father who knows exactly what each of us needs.
the other morning i was reading in mosiah 7 and read this:
“but if ye will turn to the Lord with full purpose of heart, and put your trust in him, and serve him with all diligence of mind, if ye do this, he will, according to his own will and pleasure, deliver you out of bondage”. everything happens in His timing. we must simply just trust in Him.
i know this is His church. i love this gospel and i love being a part of this sweet work. it is the most fulfilling thing i have ever done. i love being a missionary and putting on my nametag every single morning. how amazing to know that there are 88,000 missionaries around the world doing the same thing as me. 88,000 representatives of our savior jesus christ. this is His work.
lots of love,
funny moments of the week:
well just one funny moment of the week. my trainer, sister smith is a zone leader now. so for her zone activity she played a game kinda like family feud. so she made a bunch of people answer these questions. i just wanted to add some of them so you can laugh too.
1) first thought when you opened your mission call? crap im gonna see my ex boyfriend
2) Hardest part of the mission? praying with people over the phone(it’s honestly not hard, but it is weird/funny/awkard)
3) Most frequently asked question on temple square? where’s the bathroom?
4) name a temple square stereotype: well there are so many from, service mission, to only pretty girls get sent here, to is this even a real mission?
5) name a regular on temple square: haha this is just a funny question because what other mission in the world are there regulars or the SAME people there everyday.
